Exploring Different Types Of HVAC Systems

An efficient HVAC system ensures your living quarters are comfortable. Whether you want to buy a new HVAC or replace an existing one, it pays to familiarize yourself with the available options.

Choosing the proper HVAC unit for your home will not only ensure you enjoy clean air and convenient indoor temperatures for a long time, but it will also minimize your annual home energy costs. Read on to explore the main types of HVAC systems.

Heating and Cooling Split HVACs

These HVACs have a unit for heating and one for cooling. They are available as indoor and outdoor units. The cooling system outside uses compressors, refrigerants, and coils to cool air. The outside unit also has a fan that blows out hot air. These units are placed outside homes during the summer.

The heating and cooling split system also comes with a heater kept in the basement or any storage space in your home. The heater uses gas to circulate heat in your house. The heat is dispersed by an evaporator or fan.

Also, the heater has a thermostat to regulate your home's temperature. Some of these units have humidifiers and purifiers to keep your home comfortable in different weather conditions.

Duct Free HVACs

Although this system has high upfront expenses, it is convenient in homes where ducted systems are inappropriate. These duct-free systems are a great alternative to ducted HVACs.

The installation process is faster and more straightforward since ducts aren't needed. The technician normally installs the unit directly in the area where heating and cooling services are required. This provides better independent control. Duct-free systems are popular in guest houses and apartments where tenants can adjust the temperature according to their preferences.

Packaged Systems

A packed HVAC system has all the essential components in one cabinet. This large cabinet is usually placed in the basement. These units are installed outdoors.

Packaged systems feature a blower to channel treated air in the house and direct untreated air into the unit. The air treatment varies depending on the packaged unit. The main packaged systems are gas/electric units, heat pumps, and a hybrid.

One of the benefits of packaged systems is that there is no noise in your home because the mechanical elements of the unit are outside. However, these systems don't have many options, like the ductless split HVACs. Also, since the mechanical components are outside, they are vulnerable to the elements, making these units wear out faster than other HVAC units.
